Wisdom from Lake Wobegone

“This is a great country, and it wasn’t made so by angry people.”

I heard Keillor say this in a wonderful documentary called “Garrison Keillor: The Man on the Radio in Red Shoes.” It’s helpful for me to keep it in mind with the midterms approaching, and in an age when the angriest voices – Limbaugh, Beck, Olbermann, and the tea partiers – have basically poisoned any opportunity for meaningful conversation. Keillor has also said this:

“It’s a beautiful world, rain or shine, and there is more to life than winning.”

A good thing too, because common decency, plain sense, and good humor seem to be losing.
