Kevin Kelly, Science, and Wonder

Listening to Kevin Kelly’s audiobook What Technology Wants–in particular, his chapter on “convergence evolution”–I see afresh how sad it is that so much of the American church has taken itself out of the serious scientific conversation about evolution and the origins of life. Kelly is the co-founder of Wired magazine and describes himself as “a devout Christian.” I’m glad he’s out there talking about this stuff, but the conversation needs to be commonplace in our families, our schools, and our churches. Convergence evolution, “ordained-becoming,” nature’s archetypes, evolutionary non-randomness, and DNA (“the strangest molecule in the universe”)…these are fascinating, even wondrous. The earth revolving around the sun is much more interesting than the other way around.
