Come Now, My Love

Grandma’s funeral was lovely – sad, of course, but also a celebration of a life well-lived. It was extraordinary to be able to spend part of the weekend with so many relatives from all around the country, many of whom I haven’t seen in over a decade. I think I will always remember the sermon my Uncle Steve gave at the service, and the text he used from Song of Songs:

Come now, my love.
My lovely one, come.
For you, the winter has passed,
The snows are over and gone,
The flowers appear in the land,
The season of joyful songs has come.
The cooing of the turtledove is heard in our land.

Come now, my love.
My lovely one, come.
Let me see your face.
And let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet and your face is beautiful.

Come now, my love,
My lovely one, come.
